Flashframe looks to continue success at Shamrock ahead of Boston
This Sunday's 8k race is anticipated to bring crowds in the thousands, particularly those looking to celebrate St. Patrick driving the snakes from Ireland, but also drive off a few pounds as we head into the warmer months in Chicago, but more importantly Boston.
Flashframe launched in October 2016, and has seen success at the marathon here in Chicago as well as a month later, at the worlds largest marathon, in New York City. By crowdsourcing race photography, runners now have access to affordable pictures taken by local photographers spectating, rather than buy official, higher priced, photography. This Sunday's race is the USATF national club championships in the eight kilometer run, meaning it brings some of the fastest individuals within the United States looking to win the team title for their club.
The event is one of the largest in the nation before more heralded and well known races like Boston, less than twenty days away, but it has been marked by many as the first stop along the way in rigorous race schedules leading up to fall marathons.
The race dates back to 1980 when it was held in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, known most famously for the zoo. At that point, it only boasted 1,000 runners, whereas now it regularly brings numbers in the tens of thousands. Despite recently declining numbers, the race still is the largest 8k in the world.
